A small walk through Servant Songs

 Hello!

This blog for our Lentish series this year will look different. It will essentially serve as a study guide to the videos provided by Media Gratiae so that we can spend time studying into the Word.

This series is beautifully done- primarily because of the exaltation of Christ. He is the Crown Jewel as well as the Sacrificial Lamb. We will learn to see him as both and can watch as the prophecies unfold.

Without further explanation...here is the outline for this week! Study along with me?!

CONTEXT

*watch the video first just to hear it- follow through a 2nd or 3rd time with the outline at your own pace through the week so you can use the outline to take notes.

  Context:

Order of the 4 Songs

This is a picture of Christ! The coming Messiah!

Isaiah 42 serves to explain the coming Christ

Isaiah 49, 50 build on this

Isaiah 53 Is the song of the Cross which builds on the first 3

Essential to this study: try not to interpret the prophet- otherwise you become the teacher and not the learner ( or student) Allow the prophet to teach you about the Lamb who is to come.

-Question: Do you do this in other areas of scripture? Or go in with personal baggage or ideas of what it should say and try to force the Word of God to mold to your current held worldview or ideologies? In what other areas do you need to let go of trying to "teach the bible" what it means to say- rather than being the recipient of the Word of God?

Here- is the coming hope! Let Isaiah do the teaching and be able to end in the worship of the coming King.

Breakdown of Isaiah-

Distinct difference- chapters 1-39 Judgement of Judah

Chapter 1- they are like....barn animals, child, God not attending church

2nd backdrop

 - Hezekiah becomes careless- He has become proud ( although once godly) -very foolish

Pride, carelessness and indifference. We have become used to moral decline.

-Question: are there areas in your life that you have allowed to become indifferent or numb to moral decline? Social Media, movies, modesty, etc....can you find one area to bring to the Lord and ask Him to help you see it as He does through the lens not of society but of Scripture?

NEXT thing- it is recommended to take a pause and read through Lamentations. It is only 5 chapters! I highly recommend audio if you are concerned or on time restraints. Driving to work, folding laundry, washing dishes... etc. It does not take very long.

Isaiah 40- the turning point of the book. We will see 27 chapters of mercy- the heart of this mercy is the coming Messiah.
