Jesus is the Christ

#3 Jesus is the Christ because He is the seed of New Humanity.

-He is the Seed of those who come after Him.

-There are 3 separate paragraphs and 3 separate lists in this passage. It is organized  in a theological way of 3 groups of 14 generations. Why would it be list this?

-A simple explanation 14 is 7 doubled. 7 is the number of perfection in the bible.  There are therefore 6 lists of 7. Matthew could be suggesting that God's 6 days of preparing the way is complete with the 7th coming into Christ. Christ enters the world bringing it into a new Sabbath rest.

-Jesus is the beginning of New Humanity. The book of the 'genealogy of Christ' the term genealogy is only used here and in Genesis when we see the creation of the heavens and the earth (Septuagint).

-Restoration, newness and life. Jesus restores to sinners what Adam had in the beginning...fellowship with Christ.

-For sinners who trust in Him, He will give them newness of life.

-Matthew 11:28 "Come to me all you who are heavy burden and I will give you rest..."

-Final quote at the end Rabbonis Martis (spelling might be wrong) "The book of the generations...for by the one all things were restored that was corrupted by the other..."

Thoughts/Questions:

1. Do you have hope in eternal rest in Jesus?

2. Have we separated Jesus from the Old Testament, leaving Him free standing rather than eternal?

3. How can the Christmas story be a launching point to share the gospel with others?
